Story
On the 21st November 2023, we suddenly lost my Stepdad at home with my Mum and I by his side.
Over 20 years ago, he received a kidney transplant, donated by his wonderful step-mum Carol. That kidney gave him a new lease of life for so many years, but unfortunately, the kidney started to fail on him over the past 18 months, and made his daily life a struggle. However, he kept going and didn't give up as he knew that soon enough the pain and turmoil would be over.
Finally, at the end of October, the failing kidney was removed and he was receiving dialysis 3 times a week. My mum was due to donate one of her Kidneys at the beginning of this year.
His case was unique, and the specialist team of doctors who supported and treated him over the years said that they had never dealt with a patient with a medical history like him before.
Unfortunately, the delay in having the kidney taken out played a factor into his decline and led him to the 21st November when he couldn't fight any more.
This has left a huge hole in our lives and hearts and we will continue to remember him every day.
I will be using this page to raise money for Kidney Research, a charity close to his heart, in order to aid research for development treatment to save lives, similar to my stepdad's.
