Women + Health has been a safe, inclusive space for vulnerable, disadvantaged and underrepresented women and their families since 1986. Pioneers of integrated and holistic healthcare, it nurtures physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. Services include short and long term counselling, complementary and alternative medicines such as acupuncture, osteopathy and reflexology; also yoga, therapeutic gardening and life coaching. Many service users have complex health and social needs and include survivors of domestic and sexual violence, those suffering with multiple chronic physical pain conditions, burnout syndrome, PTSD, anxiety and depression.
Here's what Women + Health clients say about their services:
“Breast cancer and Thyroid cancer mean I am dependent on medication and missing some hormones that others produce naturally. ... A compromised immune system. Mine are invisible illnesses, but my permanently whistling lungs struggle to inflate fully even in the freshest of air. - Using my body in the gentle Women + Health yoga sessions, is absolute bliss. It's a positive feeling, rather than one where the aches can be haunted with ghosts of times less well. And the other participants are women, and some also with hidden health conditions. There is a unity and support where illness is not the focus, but wellness is.... “
“My time in long term counselling at Women + Health has been extremely beneficial to my overall mental health. For the first time in 54 years, I was able to talk about the abuse I suffered as a very young child. Counselling also helped me to express my thoughts and feelings around the death of my younger sister, older brother, father, nephew and several other family members. I kept everything in my head and body and by the time I sought help I was so mentally drained I just couldn’t think straight. Two years on I can talk freely of my past. There has been a noticeable difference in the relationships I have with my children, extended family and friends. I feel better able to cope with most situations that arise and now communicate more effectively. I have the strength to make positive changes and look forward to the next chapter of my life.”
