Story
My family has history with the RUH. My husband worked here as a junior doctor and our daughter was born here. I currently work as a Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist with a great team caring for many patients and their families. Other teams have taken care of us( as a family) over the years so this is a way of ' giving back and saying thanks'. Most recently there was an unexpected health emergency event of a friend and colleague that highlighted the importance of having access to exemplary care provision delivered by teams of people. People- remarkable human beings. Health care professionals, support workers, professionals allied to medicine, administrative teams, domestic teams.......all part of a bigger health service , often working above and beyond; often and silently working in addition to what is expected.
I care for many patients who live with and beyond their cancer diagnosis. They are stronger , braver and more courageous than they think yet they can be vulnerable too. That is why every member of every team strive to give their best to 'walk alongside them', trying to help, care and steady their journey's. This could be a family member, a loved one, friend, colleague.......someone who needed help/ care/ treatment.
I and many others completed the Walk of Life on a really hot, 11th May. 26.2 miles ( done and dusted). In a few months I will take to the foothills of the himalayas because I can. I am able. I am so lucky to have my health, family, supportive friendships and colleagues here at the RUH who will ' virtually' be with me every elevated step of the way in my charity fundraising endeavour. Why? To help the RUH, our families, friends and our patients- at the heart of all we do.
RUHX is the official charity of the Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
At RUHX, were more than a hospital charity. We go further to give every patient the extra extraordinary care they deserve, while supporting our staff to do what they do best and furthering innovation within our hospitals. Were out there in our community, collaborating with the people and organisations who drive real change. And were making sure that every penny we raise goes towards improving health, happiness and wellbeing for everyone in our community.
