Story

When we hear the words you have cancer, life is never the same. One in two Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer. They're our spouses, children, parents, friends, and neighbors. They're us.

This year I am playing in memory of Carolyn Boos Jones. We were roommates our freshman year at Cornell. We both came from the mid-west and had similar life values that were anchored on our families and faith. We became friends for life. I joined the polo team and Carolyn played on the gymnastics team. We shared an apartment for the rest of our time at Cornell. After that, we always kept in touch and when we could get together, it seemed like nothing had changed. We were able to converse about life, politics, religion, and whatever....

Carolyn was diagnosed with breast cancer 18 years ago. Close to when Keri & Donna started Polo for the Cure. Carolyn kept her faith and fought off this horrible disease. She continued to live vibrantly. She had a loving marriage, raised two great kids, and was actively involved both in her family company and their charitable foundation. Carolyn always had so much energy and enthusiasm to give that she was an inspiration to all who knew and worked with her. Tragically, the cancer returned a few years ago. She continued to fight valiantly for more quality time with her loved ones. Now she has passed on to Heaven. Carolyn is and will continue to be sorely missed by her friends and family, but she will not be forgotten.

Community fundraising for our cancer program will support our HERE is Where Cancer Meets its Match, our $20M Campaign to create cancer care our communities deserve. With your help, we'll bring the latest technology to the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre and increase our capacity to help more people and improve their patient journey and experience. You can ensure our talented clinicians have the state-of-the-art equipment and spaces to deliver the best care - and the best chance for our patients to survive cancer - HERE, close to home.
