Story
My journey to recovery has been long and difficult. At a young age, I lost my father to addiction and endured abuse from my stepfather. Unable to process those emotions, at the age of 10, I started to turn to drugs as a coping mechanism. For 30 long years, I battled addiction, switching from one drug to another.
On the outside, I didn’t appear to be struggling with addiction. I attended college and had a job leasing apartments. However, behind the facade, my addiction was taking its toll. I was unable to care for my son who suffered from various health issues, and I was overwhelmed by my own problems. I wanted help but I didn’t know where to go or how to get it.
After CPS took my son, I spent years in and out of rehab facilities for my addiction. In 2021, I found hope and support at Nexus Recovery Center, where I received the help and guidance that changed my life. Immediately, I felt that Nexus was different from other recovery programs. They respected me and treated me like a human being. Nexus is a therapeutic community that offers trauma therapy, process groups, support, and community.
Today, I am a recovery coach at Nexus helping other women who are struggling with addiction, and most importantly, I have a beautiful, loving relationship with my son and my mother.
This Mother’s Day and beyond, I hope you will consider supporting Nexus Recovery Center with a donation - no contribution is too small. Whether you realize it or not, you know someone who is struggling with addiction. They are broken and hopeless. Everyone deserves help, regardless of their financial situation. I am immensely grateful for the treatment I received, which I could not have afforded on my own.
Nexus Recovery Center gave me my life back.
By supporting Nexus, you will enable us to continue this life-changing work and allow more women to find the help they need to overcome addiction and change not only their lives but their loved ones as well.
