As of the end of 2022, there were 108.4 million people worldwide who had been forcibly displaced. In many parts of the world - in Afghanistan and Syria; in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Sahel region of Africa; in Bangladesh where nearly a million Rohingya refugees have fled persecution from Myanmar; in the Americas where millions of Venezuelans have fled from the high crime, instability and political repression of their home country; and, close to home for many of us, in Ukraine - refugees and migrants need help.
The United Nations Refugee Agency works to support people who are forced to flee, both by giving emergency support and by helping refugees to find work to support their families, and refugee children to get an education. As the world becomes harsher and more hostile towards refugees, I ask you to give what you can.
If you would rather support people in the Sahel by helping them to make a living where they are, you might like to go to my JustGiving page and donate to TreeAid, which works to turn back the spread of deforestation while aiding sustainable development by training farmers in farming fruit trees.
