As the climate changes, protecting ancient forests, encouraging regeneration of woodland, and responsible tree planting (i.e. planting a range of tree species that are appropriate to the ecosystem and will encourage wildlife) all become more important. We keep hearing about the importance of tropical rainforests, but temperate European forests are also important, and deserve respect and protection - and more of us will have the opportunity to enjoy walking in British woodland than are likely to visit the Amazon rainforest.
