Story
Raising funds for my daughter Mollie who was diagnosed with a genetic condition (caused by a change in her CRB1 gene) and she was registered blind from around 4 months old.
There is currently no cure or treatment for her condition, but there is lots of research going on into her condition! We have an absolutely amazing Professor and UCL (University College London) on board to run a clever scientific project, which would grow an exact copy of the back of Mollie’s eye, (her retina) in a lab, along with the other kids in Team CRB1 too. This would allow the scientists to watch the exact process of how Mollie’s and the other kids eyes, grew when they did. They will be able to test already approved drugs on the copies to see if any could help stop further deterioration, or improve any vision. The possibilities are fantastic and the science is ground breaking but cost is significant at £400k! CRB1 related conditions are rare, so there isn't so much available funding and so we are driving this ourselves. Showing we want this, knowing there is a chance that could help our children see! I'm hoping to raise as much as possible by really challenging myself with this walk.
The Yorkshire 3 Peaks is 24 miles, 1585m (5200ft) of ascent and takes 12 hours! It will be a massive challenge for me and everyone else who is taking part.
Mollie’s Uncle Elliott and his partner Hannah will also be taking part in the walk to help raise funds and awareness. All sponsorship goes to help get this amazing project in place. Recognising times are tough at the minute, we really appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks, Elisha x
