Story
This International Men's Day (November 19th), we're tackling an important conversation about men's health, specifically prostate cancer.
As the co-founder of Halzak Elevate - Women in Tech, alongside my husband Michael Kwarteng, our mission extends beyond gender boundaries when it comes to health advocacy.
The statistics are stark and sobering: in the UK alone, 12,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer yearly - that's 33 men every day, or one man every 45 minutes. More alarmingly, while 1 in 8 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, this risk doubles to 1 in 4 for Black men.
This cause is deeply personal to us. Michael, my husband and business partner, is a prostate cancer survivor. Through our podcast "The 1-in-4 Conversation," he'll be bravely sharing his journey, turning his experience into a beacon of hope and advocacy for others. The support we received during our family's battle with prostate cancer was invaluable, and now it's our turn to give back.
We're aiming to raise £250 for Prostate Cancer UK to help provide crucial support to families facing similar challenges. Every donation, no matter the size, contributes to breaking down barriers and stigma around men's health discussions.
As a women in tech community, we believe that health advocacy knows no gender - when we empower any group to take charge of their health, we all rise together. Please join us in this crucial mission to support Prostate Cancer UK and help save lives through awareness and early detection.
Together, we can break the silence around men's health.
