Story
Earlier this year, I started working for REUK, a charity that supports young refugee and asylum seeking people with their education. Many of the young people I work with have arrived in the UK independently, eager to learn, but with limited knowledge of how the UK education system works or the barriers that exist to accessing it. By providing them with mentoring, wellbeing support, and information and guidance, we are able to help them navigate and take ownership of their own educational journeys.
On Saturday 3rd June, I will be doing a triathlon to raise funds to help us continue offering this support. One of the greatest privileges of my work is being able to bear witness to young people's courage and strength in the face of immense challenges. In doing this triathlon, I am holding in mind the stamina and resilience of the young people who continue to teach me so much about what it means to persevere and resist giving up on your dreams.
I believe in the value of REUK's work because I see the impact of nurturing young people's aspirations every day. If you are someone who has benefited from the gift of education in your own life, this is a wonderful way to pass that gift on. Please give with whatever capacity you have.
With love and gratitude,
Eleftheria
