**Update**: Due to injury, I have sadly had to move the race I was taking in from Berlin Marathon 2024 to Manchester Marathon 2025. All donations to the JustGiving page for Berlin Marathon are contributed to the new page for the Manchester Marathon, which can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/elana-jiggins-manchester-marathon-2025
Thanks to all who have donated so far!
I am dedicating my run in this year's Berlin Marathon to the cherished memory of my dad. As I lace up my running shoes, my aim is to raise funds for St Barnabas Hospice—a cause that holds a special place in my heart.
In November 2021, my dad bravely lost his battle with cancer, a journey that spanned over two challenging years. His diagnosis in June 2021, revealed terminal lung cancer that had metastasized to the brain. Throughout this difficult time, St Barnabas Hospice stood by us, offering unwavering support.
From the moment of his terminal diagnosis until the very end, St Barnabas provided not only compassionate care to my father but also invaluable assistance to our entire family. In addition to end-of-life care for my father, they extended their support to my mother, brother, and me, offering solace and guidance through the grieving process.
Thanks to their tireless efforts, we were able to create lasting and loving memories in my father's final months, with St Barnabas supplying necessary care, equipment, and assistance. They also made it possible for my father to spend in his final days at home, surrounded by their round-the-clock care. For this, we will be forever grateful.
While various nurses and charities played roles in my father's battle, St Barnabas was a constant presence, going above and beyond to ensure his comfort and make the journey as manageable as possible.
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to St Barnabas, expressing my gratitude for the unparalleled care they provided.
Every day, we feel my dad's absence, he is dearly missed by family and friends, and it motivates everything I do to make him proud. This marathon is a huge challenge for me (and admittedly, I am a little bit scared) but knowing it's for him keeps me going. Wish me luck!
