Cycling 25,000 miles without a day off

We provide emotional support for people to alleviate distress or despair

Story

I have never really been a cyclist, but I am now.

Back in August 2020 I decided to try riding for 365 consecutive days, with a minimum of 10 miles as a daily target. The idea of not stopping for a year resonated with my views on Samaritans, a 24/7 charity that aims to support people in distress and without judgement. It is free to ring them on 116 123, or email, and you can find out more at:

https://www.samaritans.org/

At the time 10 miles a day was a lot and the challenge was tough at points; all weather and 2 crashes later, I managed to finish the initial target raising around £3,000 on the now defunct VirginGiving site. At the end of the 1st year I had ridden 5,800 miles...

I opted against a day off and whilst writing, I am now over 20,000 miles. My aim is to ride the distance around the world, 25,000 miles and raise some funds for our local branch.

Pedalling away has given me so much too. The early morning rides can be meditative at times, a calming in my busy mind. It has helped me to let go of the stresses of a day and improved my energy levels no end. The sunrises in winter being a particular highlight. As an added bonus I have to have an extra meal a day, but I can never seem to consume enough!

Massive thanks in advance for any donations :)
