Story
As part of our CARE learning, we have been tasked with raising money for charity! This year, we have selected Guide Dogs and have been fortunate to have a visitor (and their guide dog) come in to share their experience of sight loss. We also want to raise awareness of the importance of regular eye tests to make sure our eyes are healthy.
Did you know that there are around 28,000 children in the UK with a vision impairment and that 80% of everything you learn is by sight? Though Guide Dogs is best known for their incredible (and adorable!) guide dogs, they also support thousands of young people to live the life they choose and do all the same things as their friends.
We have organised a week of specially adapted PE lessons to make them inclusive for those with visual impairments. Each class will take part in an adapted relay race (with a blindfold and guiding rope). This video will give you an idea of what it might look like: https://youtu.be/d32YpQKaZ9E
It would be wonderful if family and friends could fundraise in support of each child taking part. Crows Class has written some brilliant letters to explain why you should donate! You can use this JustGiving page, or, during the week of events (beginning the 20th May), PTA members have volunteered to accept and process cash donations on behalf of the school.
Every pound that we can raise with our Fund Race will make a difference. We've chosen a target of at least £237 because that is the amount that could buy a child an iPad so they can learn how to use adaptive technology to explore different activities.
We are so grateful for your support and look forward to the whole school coming together to Fund Race!
