Story

I will be competing at ultra mma on the 16th November to raise money for a cause very important to me.

Growing up with mild cerebral palsy i experienced a glimpse of what people with disabilities have to deal with every day, from always being at the back of the group on the cross country runs, constantly tripping and falling over and being the clumsy one, to having to practise and stretch and have rounds and rounds of botox injections in my legs just to be able to walk normally and squat down, run and jump. I am so glad to say ive largely overcome my physical disability, but there are thousands of people to which normal life is a constant struggle, who constantly have to fight themselves to perform basic tasks. They endure the looks of pity and demeaning comments and would give everything they have just to be normal and move in all the ways we take for granted, to be in the football team or on the hockey pitch, to be able to go to the toilet or up a flight of stairs without help, movements and joys of an active life that we take for granted. These people have more courage and endurance than any world champion just to keep waking up in the morning with a smile, and throwing everything they have at the concrete wall of disability over and over and over again just hoping one day they'll be able to get a peek of what its like to be normal. They are people and should never be treated like anything less.

Sports Disability Coach are a charity offering sports clubs designed to the needs of kids and teenagers with disabilities, giving them that community and love of exercise, and improving their health in the process. They train teachers, schools and clubs about how to make active spaces more inclusive for people with disabilities. They are absolutely a cause worth fighting for.

About the charity

We use the power of sport to enhance the lives of disabled people. Disabled people are twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people. Through our inclusive clubs, coaching sessions in schools and expert-led training, we break down barriers to sport for 5,000 disabled people each year.
