Story

In September 2023, I embarked from the UK on my 35-foot 1978 sailboat 'Telemachus' with the goal of crossing the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Preparation for this trip has been an immensely-challenging year-long journey.

'Telemachus' is named in tribute to the British submarine HMS Telemachus, onboard which my grandfather Ken served and sailed a similar 14,000 mile journey from the UK to Australia in the 1950s. Ken recently passed in July this year from dementia-related injuries. The sea always held a big place in his heart and his ashes have joined me on my journey.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is dedicated to funding research into understanding the diseases that cause dementia, improving diagnosis, finding out more about how to reduce risk, and developing treatments.

Please feel free to follow my live journey progress here and Instagram updates here. I'd be grateful for your support and encouragement in aid of this worthy cause Alzheimer’s Research UK.
