Story
Dartmoor is nearly three times the land of Gaza. When my heart is sore and I need solace I go to the Moor to wander, to swim in the rivers and pools, to be alone with the sounds of nature.
Right now, this minute, in Gaza, children are suffering and dying, families are torn apart, mothers, fathers, daughters and sons lie under the rubble of their homes. My heart is sore and I cannot find solace.
Dartmoor is composed of a great dome of granite, the solidified core of a long extinct volcano, barely draped in green. In high places where the land rises up to the grey, lark speckled sky, the granite breaks through the turf and shows itself in towers and crenellations - on Dartmoor these are called Tors. They have great names, Yes Tor, Fox Tor, Bonehill Tor.
Over the next few weeks I intend to climb to one hundred of these tors as meditation, pilgrimage, escape... and to raise some money.
IIf you would like to join me on this project please ask - I'm easiest to find on Twitter where I am @MrEFinch. Together we can raise some much needed funding for Medical Aid for Palestinians. One of the few NGOs directly working to try and support women and children's health in Palestine.
We can try to raise some money - I've set a target of £4000 but let's hope that we soar past that and manage to make a real difference to some lives.
