Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Laura and I (Holly) have teamed up with Holly and Catherine (Sister and Mum) of Oscar who has A.L.L (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia). The ellenor Hospice has played an active role in supporting Oscar and other students at the academy and we would like to try and give back to the charity to enable them to continue their work with some of our most vulnerable families and the wider community.
Holly, has written a few words about her journey since Oscar's diagnosis, please take some time to read it, and if you can spare anything to help ellenor continue their work, we would all be truly grateful.
Holly:
On Friday 22nd September 2023 I will be taking part in 10k Twilight Walk for the Ellenor Hospice along with my Mum and 2 staff members (Holly Hicks and Laura Dickman) at my School. If you have a spare few minutes please take time to read my story below.
On the 2nd September 2023 it will be 2 years since Oscar (my twin brother) was diagnosed with A.L.L (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia).
Within days Oscars was initially moved to St George's Hospital for further tests under the care of the Royal Marsden and fitted with a port-a-cath, then onto to Royal Marsden in Sutton for his initial 3 year treatment plan and to begin an intense course of Chemotherapy, before he was able to move back home. One home he is placed under the care of his primary care the Royal Marsden, secondary care Medway Hospital in Gillingham and the Ellenor, a Kent based Hospice who provide support to families dealing with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions in the Dartford Gravesham and Swanley area.
The Ellenor have supported Oscar by delivering certain chemotherapy treatments, changing dressings and lines and taking bloods both at home and in School. Being able to take bloods in a School environment means Oscars education is not impacted. If the Hospice were unable to provide these types of treatments to the local community people like Oscar would not be able to lead even a semi-normal life and would be back and forth to hospitals, and his studies would be greatly impacted.
I'm not sure how I felt when I found out Oscar was diagnosed with Leukaemia, but I do know that it turned my world upside down. As my parents had to be with Oscar in Hospital in the initial period of his illness, I rarely saw my parents, my Nanny had to come over to look after me and make sure I was ok. I felt upset and emotional. Everything was going to change from this day and my life was going to be different. For the Ellenor to be here to support us makes a huge difference to me, and keeps us together as a family.
Again, thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for any donations.
