Story

Hello I’m Duncan Haigh,

As a bald and middle aged Yorkshireman with a sense of adventure, I have decided to walk solo across the Pyrenees for 50 plus days covering 840 km and 43000 metres of ascent. The route I will be taking is the GR11 crossing from Spanish Pyrenees to the Mediterranean .

20 years ago, I was given a cornea eye transplant which gave me my sight and allowed me to watch my children grow up. My mother has macular degeneration and has been told she too will need a transplant.

I have decided to fundraise for The Macular Society to fund research into this incurable disease and take part in their ‘Step around the World’ fundraiser.

This will be a challenge and cannot be taken lightly - it is as much as climbing Everest 5x.

I have a solar panel for my phone, new tent, fluorescent underwear and a bear bell to keep me safe.

Please take this opportunity to sponsor me on my way, every little will help.

Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK. It ruthlessly steals the sight of children and adults alike, and right now there is no cure.
