I'm running for research!
I'm running Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2025 to support Cardiff University's cancer research. I'm supporting the next generation of researchers, to help accelerate life-changing discoveries to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for people living with a wide range of conditions.
With both my parents dying of cancer I have seen how brutal and indiscriminate it can be and I have devoted most of my career to understanding the molecular mechanisms of the disease. In the 30+ years that I have worked in the cancer research field I have seen how research has impacted diagnostics and treatments for cancer.
Patients that attend research active centres have better outcomes and thus I consider it important to maintain the cancer research activity here in Cardiff, so that patients in Wales have the opportunities to access the latest treatments. Funding raised from the Cardiff Half Marathon will go towards PhD studentships and early-career researchers, thereby supporting the next generation of cancer researchers at Cardiff University.
Cancer researchers at Cardiff University are improving outcomes for people living with some of the most common cancers such as breast, prostate and bowel, as well as those that are rarer or hard to treat.
