Story

As a Specialist Doctor at The Myton Hospices I know only too well the importance of the care they provide.

It is a privilege to be part of such an amazing team and be able to play a small role in the work of the hospice to enhance the lives of so many people, at a time when it is most needed.

Every time I put on my trainers and enjoy a run it reminds me how lucky I am to be able to do just that. So why not set myself a challenge that combines the 2 things I am most passionate about promoting - palliative care and running - it can only be a win win for everyone!

So here's what it involves:

1. Running the Manchester marathon on 14 April

2. Running (virtually) 629 miles from Manchester to Amsterdam - of course via all 3 Myton Hospices

3. Running the Amsterdam marathon on 20 October

And this is how you can support me:

1. Just make a donation - simple as that!

2. Donate £20 to have a mile (or the finishing straight) of the Manchester or Amsterdam marathons dedicated to someone special - just pick a mile and leave it with the name of your loved one, to be included on my T-shirt, in the comments

3. Donate £10 to sponsor a 5 mile leg of the run to Amsterdam. In return you get to pick the route, a special challenge, a fancy dress outfit or whatever takes your fancy. Use your imagination, the world is your oyster (within reason)! You could even choose to join me! Write your request in your donation comment!

4. Make a donation and in return enter a sweepstake to guess the total time in hours and minutes it will take me to run both marathons and the 629 miles from Manchester to Amsterdam. Just leave your predicted time in your donation comment and you will be in with the chance to win a prize for the nearest time!

And in case you need reminding, this is why your support is so important:

I am hoping to raise £5,000 from my challenge, which could fund the running cost of our Inpatient Unit at Coventry Myton Hospice for one day.

I know the value that palliative care and Myton give to our local community. Last year, we supported more than 1,700 people and their families in our three hospices, via our patient & family support services, and in the community through our Myton at Home service. The work we do is truly amazing.

At The Myton Hospices we believe that everyone matters for every single moment of their life; we focus on enhancing life when cure is no longer an option. We are leaders in compassionate end of life care; our work centres on our patients and involving them in decisions about their care. Perhaps most importantly we give them more quality time with their loved ones.
