My wonderful mum died of kidney failure in August 2022 after a decade on dialysis and living with a terminal diagnosis. You fantastic people raised £972.92 last year for Kidney Research UK and forever the glutton I want to try and raise a bit more. Last year you supported me through a 5K Inflatable Obstacle Course and a 10K Walk dressed as a pumpkin. This year events are bigger and more plentiful as I have a bigger ask of you: shall we try to double the £836.08 + £143.84 Gift Aid raised last year?

So, I will be taking part in:

Winter 25K in January

Walking Coast to Coast, from Bowness-on-Solway to Tynemouth in March/April

Walking across the Isle of White in May

An Inflatable 5k Obstacle Course

And putting my pumpkin back on for a Halloween Half Marathon (21K).

I want to improve treatment for this awful disease. Currently, kidney patients like my mum spend 6 hours a day hooked up to a machine 3 days a week and feel so tired and sick after treatment that all they can do is sleep. It is estimated over 7.2 million people in the UK have chronic Kidney Disease, and 30,000 people in the UK are on dialysis. Their families watch as dialysis lines fail, one after the other, and they slowly run out of options to put a new one in, limbs begin being amputated and your loved one gets sicker and sicker. We live jumping at the phone ringing for an infection. Or blood pressure suddenly dropping and they can’t be brought back. Painkillers get stronger and more frequent, until your loved one is having to choose between being in agony just to talk to you or being a case of the lights are on but no one is home.

My mum was tough, silly, funny and sparkly and as such I have tried to choose some events that reflect her.
