Story
The first time our family were affected by Pancreatic Cancer was in 2010, when we lost Paul at just 27 years old having been diagnosed with it just 15 days earlier.
Whether or not it was because Pancreatic Cancer was so prevalent in our minds I don’t know, but since then we have known of so many friends who have lost loved ones to this awful disease.
13 years after our first encounter with Pancreatic Cancer we are once again facing its cruelty.
In July 2023, Clare, known and loved by so many as a wife, mum, step-mum, granny, sister, aunty and friend was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer after experiencing some of it’s very few symptoms.
Despite facing one of the toughest journey’s ahead Clare is so incredibly brave and currently undergoing palliative chemotherapy. Everyone in Clare’s life has been rocked by her diagnosis but are so utterly proud of her endless courage.
We know we can’t change Clare’s diagnosis, but we do know that we can support the fight to stop others from facing this heart-breaking disease in the future.
Pancreatic Cancer has the lowest survival rate of all common cancers in the UK with just 5% of people diagnosed surviving. The survival rate has barely improved at all over the last 45 years and despite this, it receives just 2% of the UK budget into cancer research.
In April 2024 Catherine, Stuart, Josh and myself (Clare) are taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon and Chris is tackling the Blackpool Marathon to help raise vital funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK and their tireless research into this disease.
Along the way we will be doing lots of fundraising to help us reach our £5,000 target, including our ‘Barn Dance’ on Saturday 2nd December.
If you are able to sponsor us or donate towards our fundraising in any way we would be so incredibly grateful!
Thank you so much!
Catherine, Clare, Chris, Stuart & Josh
