Story
In a nutshell I'm looking to raise funds to get some wooden gym equipment for Our Health Meadow site in Llandough hospital. If you think this is a worthy cause please donate! If you're still not sure keep reading....
So, like the best Netflix psychological thrillers there's many strands to this story. I work in adult mental health at Hafan-Y-Coed hospital, Llandough. I spend my days in our gym helping patients on their road to recovery. I'm a massive advocate of the benefits of exercise for mental health. Over the years I've had struggles with my own mental health and I've always used exercise as one of my coping strategies.
In my time in Hafan-Y-Coed I've met some pretty inspiring people, and Hannah is one of them. She came to our gym and worked her socks off every session. One day Hannah mentioned that she had a goal of running Cardiff half marathon, so that got the clogs moving and I thought that's a goal I could help her achieve. So I contacted the Health Charity to see if I could secure a place for us, and offered to train Hannah to achieve her goal.
The next strand of the story takes me to an amazing company called The Down To Earth Project. Earlier this year I did some training with them on the Health Meadow site. They do amazing work showing the benefits of nature and being outdoors to peoples mental and physical health. They've done an awesome job already transforming the meadow site, but after my training I had the crazy idea of getting some wooden gym equipment made for our patients and the wider community to use on the site.
I am aiming to raise money for the Health Meadow to continue the amazing programmes provided by Down to Earth to improve Health and Wellbeing for patients, staff and our local community.
So Hannah and I are planning to run the Cardiff half to raise money to make this crazy idea a reality, if you can help us by making a donation it would be amazing!!
