We help people with ME/CFS to understand and survive their illness

Story

Quite simply, mum is a huge inspiration. I hope by running this race and supporting the ME Association this goes some-way to forgiving my unsympathetic teenage years!

Mum was a very keen middle-distance runner, hockey and tennis player when she was younger (spot the similarities!) but when she was diagnosed with ME in her 2nd year of University I can't begin to imagine how frustrating and daunting that must have been.

In typical mum style, I can picture her putting on a brave face and not wanting to make a fuss. She would rather ensure others are being looked after and enjoying themselves - which is why I'm so grateful for being brought up in our amazing (and sporty!) household with my equally energetic brother.

ME is chronically under-researched, therefore any donations will make a huge difference to discovering causes, treatments, and who knows maybe even a cure one day.

Thanks everyone,

Doug

Here's a bit more from the ME Association directly:

ME (Myalgic Encephalopathy) drastically changes lives. The smallest exertion can floor them; their joints and muscles ache unbearably; restful sleep eludes them; and ‘brain fog’ clouds their thinking. ME impacts daily routine - disrupting study; making work impossible; and often requires care from close family & friends.

ME has no effective drug treatment and full recovery is rare, but symptoms can stabilise and improve over time with careful management and specialist support. Research continues to try and better understand the underlying disease process and to develop preventative measures and treatments.

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.
