I am raising funds for FirstLight Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting veterans from the military and emergency services, both of whom face significant challenges after service. Having worked with FirstLight Trust since 2012, I’ve had the privilege of seeing first-hand the incredible work it does as the front line; from helping those suffering with PTSD to assisting veterans in finding secure housing. Their support changes lives, offering a lifeline to those who have given so much in service to their country and communities.

And community is what this charity is about - without the support of local communities, the work FirstLight Trust does would be meaningless to those we support. None of us can survive in isolation - we all need each other. And to this end FirstLight Trust is aiming to raise £500,000 within the next 12 months to enable it to carry out more life affirming support.

Which is why this 67-year-old mad woman, who has never run a race in her life, is doing a couch to 5k in 4 weeks rather than 6 and for 10 miles. Those we support have put their lives and health on the line time and time again to support our communities. This run seems the least I can do for the extraordinary human beings that FirstLight Trust supports.
