Story

I’m preparing for the new Premier League season by setting off on a marathon march for Prostate Cancer UK.

I’ll be pulling on my trainers for the ultimate pre-season scouting mission to every Premier League ground in the capital from August 13 to 15 – by foot.

Starting at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday, August 12th, Don Robbie’s Football March will see me walk 37.2 miles to the Emirates, home of my beloved Arsenal across three days.

Football will be on the agenda just days before the new season kicks off, and I’ll also be sharing important information about prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men, and seeking sponsorship for the march, raising money to save men’s lives.

Don Robbie’s Football March kicks off in West London at the home of Brentford on August 13, and the opening day takes in four clubs on a 14.8-mile trek as I head to Fulham’s Craven Cottage, Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge and finish at Selhurst Park, home of Crystal Palace.

On Day 2 (Wednesday, August 13), I’ll leave the home of the Eagles for a 12.4 mile stretch east, culminating at West Ham United.

And a final day 10-mile stint (Thursday, August 14) will see me leave the London Stadium and head to Tottenham Hotspur before doubling back to finish outside the home of the Gunners.

In London, 934 men die from prostate cancer every year on average. 37,000 men are living with prostate cancer in the capital, almost two thirds the capacity of the Emirates Stadium.

As a Black man in my 50s I’m at risk of prostate cancer. 1 in 4 Black men will get prostate cancer; that’s double the risk of white men. That’s hugely important to be aware of. It’s why I’m getting out there to spread this message and raise money to help find better ways to test and treat men affected by prostate cancer one step at a time.
