This talk is in support of Prostate Cancer UK - no fixed ticket price, donate what you feel able. All money raised will go to the charity.
We’ll look at bridges, churches, walls and other structures and trace the history of the city from the Romans through to the 21st century. On the way we'll learn about the monarchy, the Reformation, the rise of parliamentary democracy and the growth of London as one of the great centres of trade. There are invasions, conquests, eccentrics, geniuses and some of the world's most recognisable buildings.
Along the way we'll visit the Tower of London – the Norman castle built to dominate the conquered Anglo-Saxons, Westminster Abbey, the site of royal coronations since 1066, trace the history of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and examine London's first and most enduring bridge. Throw in Parliament, the docks and one or two surprise choices, and you get a complete picture of the capital, illustrated by the very stones that built it.
Join us - either live on 22 November, or via catch up - and discover more about the history of London while helping support a very worthwhile charity.
