Story
Don was a kind, caring, generous person whom we lost way too soon, but one of the things about Don that we don't want to lose is his youthful enthusiasm for life, sports and having fun. Don was especially happy when he could share his joy of sports or other hobbies with everyone around him.
In order to carry that spirit forward and to honor his memory, Don's family has created a scholarship fund that will go to the South City YMCA for their summer day camp program each year. This fund will allow children the opportunity to attend camp who would otherwise not be able to go. That way these kids can experience the joy of finding a new talent or getting better at something they already enjoy while making new friends along the way.
Since this scholarship fund was started in 2021, more than 80 people have contributed over $8,100 which has helped to send 30 boys and girls ages 5-13 to Aquatics, Traditional, Sports, Outdoor Rangers and Art/Humanities Camps these past four summers. We are one third of our way to our goal of $2,000 for Summer Camp 2025 to help make summer a fun time for several more kids.
We were invited to attend the Hometown Heroes Event at the South City YMCA last year. Here is the link to the video from that event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R1Mc5rkwQI
