Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of you will be aware of my reasons for supporting Maggie’s Centre in Fife. My sister Fiona passed away in March 2011 aged 54 and my wife Valerie passed in January 2012 aged just 48. Both were vibrant, positive women. They loved life, loved their families and friends and brought happiness everywhere they went. But Cancer takes good people and leaves large holes in the lives of the people who knew and loved them.
Maggie’s Centres are invaluable supporting people with Cancer and also the families and loved ones who struggle with the pain of watching their loved ones suffer and being unable to take their pain away.
I benefitted hugely from the support I received from Maggie’s in Kirkcaldy and i have tried, in my own small way, to thank them by raising money and raising awareness of what Maggie’s are all about.
I cycled from Lands End to John o Groats in a 9 day challenge back in 2017. In 2019 I did a 3 day trek in the Arctic circle and in 2021 I trekked to the top of Kilimanjaro in a 6 day hike. Thanks to the generosity of my family, friends and many well wishers I have raised just under £23,000 for Maggie’s so far. The challenges I take on are strenuous and not fun, but I do them because it’s important that I do something to deserve your hard earned money 😊 It is also important to me that you are aware that every penny I get from you goes to Maggie’s. I fund these challenges myself because none of the challenges are on a personal bucket list!
As always I set my target at £2,500 because that is approximately how much it costs to keep a Maggie’s Centre open for just one day..
This is very likely the last big challenge I undertake so I hope to rely on your fantastic generosity one more time. Thank you so much for reading this, and hopefully for your donation 👍😊
