Story
We knew something wasn’t quite right with dad and for a long time I tried to convince myself that his change in personality was part of getting old.
He was admitted to hospital whilst I was on holiday in June 2022 and what we hoped was delirium sadly turned out to be rapidly progressing Alzheimer’s disease.
My mum and I did our best to meet his needs at home but had to put him into a home in February which broke both of our hearts.
I’ve seen first hand the sadness this devastating disease can bring and want to do anything I can to prevent other families suffering and that’s my motivation for running the London Marathon in 2024. Those of you that know me well will know that I only run for beer or food so this is a massive challenge and I’ll be thinking of my dad and all the other families affected by Alzheimers every step of the way.
I will be running each mile in honour of somebody special that has been affected by dementia:
(1) Brian George
(2) Peter Gross
(3) Frank Morton
(4) Barry Lintin
(5) Ellen McGrath
(6) Brenda Brown
(7) Geoff Jenkins
(8) Dora Cole
(9) Roy Tester
(10) Surjit Kaur
(11) John Meering
(12) Ina Lee
(13) Bill Amor
(14) Alan Spice
(15) Hughie McQuade
(16) Maureen McQuade
(17) John Curristan
(18) Beryl Hart
(19) Keith Rogers
(20) Diana Davies
(21) Caterina Sirotti
(22) Yvonne Pocock
(23) Marian McConnell
(24) Peter Taylor
(25) Pauline Weaver
(26) Maureen Marteau
The last 0.2 miles across the finish line will be for dad!
Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Love always
