Story

In support of Long Ditton St Mary's School, Long Ditton Infants & Nursery School, Kingston Carer's Network, and the Grace Dear Trust.

A 50 or 75 mile ride followed by a Family Funday at LDSM, 11.30-3pm.

Long Ditton St Mary’s and Long Ditton Infants & Nursery School are both hugely loved central pillars of the community. With dedicated parents, teachers, close friends and of course the children, we’re aiming to raise money to benefit the schools as well as two charities close to us, both to our hearts and geographically.

Young Carers’ Project, part of Kingston Carers' Network. A charity dedicated to supporting children and young people, between the ages of 5 and 18, who have caring responsibilities for someone at home who has a long-term illness or disability. They offer young carers opportunities to access information, advice, support and a break from caring in a safe and positive environment outside of the home.

Money raised will help fund: Youth Group - weekly drop in, One to one support, Outings and activities, Targeted support, Mentoring Project, Young carers party.

The Grace Dear Trust is a mental health charity set up after the loss of daughter and sister, Grace, to suicide aged just 27. It's a local charity supporting the community of Elmbridge whose aim is to help save the lives of other young people suffering with mental health issues. 75% of mental illnesses start before a child reaches their 18th birthday and 50% of mental health problems in adults take root before the age of 15. Many young people struggle to understand their own feelings and don’t know how to talk about them.

By raising awareness amongst school children, giving support to those who need it and preventing others from suffering so long in silence.

Treatment available for those suffering with mental illness is severely limited because of gross under-funding, and there could, and should be more effective approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. By helping to change this, we hope that other families might avoid the unnecessary and tragic loss of a loved one.

Money raised will help fund: Counsellors to visit schools, Mental Health First Aid courses in local sports clubs, talks and seminars for parents on mental health topics including: depression, anxiety and self-harm.

The donations received will be split between each of the Charities as follows:

1/3rd Friends of Long Ditton Infants

1/3rd Friends of Long Ditton St Mary's School

1/3rd split equally between Young Carers' Project and the Grace Dear Trust
