Story
It's been a couple of years since I volunteered for Crisis and this Christmas, I will be picking back up my role as Activities Organiser at a few of the centres. Our role as volunteers is to be there for people as they start to build their lives beyond homelessness.
Every year, people like me give up their time to provide warmth, companionship and vital services to people facing homelessness during one of the toughest times of the year.
In the Activities Organiser role, I'll be encouraging guests in hotels and day centres to get involved with arts and crafts, games, films, bingo, yoga and mindfulness, visits to museums, theatre and a football stadium, and enjoying live performers who come to entertain. My team also will be ensuring that guests take full advantage of a bit of pampering (often the only time in the year they will have had any human touch) - hairdressing, pedicures, manicures etc. There are also volunteers on hand to help with accessing computers - email, CV writing, ESOL to help guests feel more connected with their family, old friends, future employment options etc.
Feeling seen and participating in different activities is often the first helpful step to seeking and accepting support towards a life in more secure surroundings.
I want to ensure that the people I meet this year continue to get the support they need after Christmas. Could you sponsor me and help make this happen? Your support will help fund Crisis’ year-round services and ensure that more people are able to end their homelessness for good.
Many thanks
