Story
Horses are powerful animals, not only physically but if you know them well enough you can gain so much unconditional love and psychological wellness.
Natural challenges through my life have sometimes been made easier through a horse being there for me.
Covid being one of them. I am a full time nurse in the NHS. I was one of many who were redeployed to our intensive care unit, this was off the scale for me. The responsibility of such patients was mind blowing, complete shock and such a journey to go through. Good and bad.
However I found myself and realised I can handle more pressure than I first thought, resilience and self belief was quickly built.
Away from work horses helped me a great deal, an evening hack in the quiet countryside, only one person to talk to who didn’t judge me or answer back.
As a way of helping others I have chosen to support the British Horse Society’s campaign of Changing Life’s Through Horses by being a jockey in a charity race.
Call me mad, being in my early fourties' but the challenge ahead of me will be hard! A lot of determination, perseverance and commitment will get me to that start line at Wetherby in November!
Thank you to each and every one of you who will choose to follow and support my journey.
The British Horse Society promotes and protects everything dear to you and your horse. For over 70 years, the BHS has been a strong equestrian voice. We will continue supporting horses and riders, and you can too.
Road Safety: Too many horses and riders are being killed or injured on UK roads. Over the past year there have been over 1,000 incident reports on our roads involving horses; 180 have been injured and 46 killed - but we know only one in ten incidents are reported. We are dedicated to improving the safety of UK riders.
Riding Out: We're dedicated to enhancing and maintaining the UKs equestrian access network. We defend endangered rights of way for riders and carriage drivers with multi-user routes across the UK being improved, preserved, and reinstated making a huge difference to the community.
Horse Welfare: The BHS responds to over 6,000 welfare cases each year, but there are a thousand more in need of help. We work hard to promote the prevention of neglect, cruelty and harm
