We fundraise for families & sick babies to give them practical & emotional support.

Story

In March Ada was born with a very rocky start, hypoglycaemic and struggling to breathe. She was quickly rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where she was given tremendous care, while Julia and I tried to wrap our heads around being terrified new parents… to a baby in critical condition. The SSNAP team were fantastic at helping us through this extremely difficult time: SSNAP support sick newborns, their parents and those that care for them; by providing emotional, medical, financial and informational support.

SSNAP was founded in 1982 and has supported the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital ever since. The unit can care for up to 56 babies at any one time and is a Level 3 Centre, the most sick and premature babies from across the Thames Valley, are looked after here in Oxford.

I‘d like to give a little something back to them for the kindness and generosity they showed us while Ada stabilised, and have shown countless other new families over the years.

In October 2024 I’ll be running two marathons: Köln (Cologne) marathon in Germany on October 6th, and then Marathon Eryri (Snowdonia marathon) on October 26th. I’m hoping that while I obliterate myself I can also raise a bit of money for this fantastic charity, to thank them for all they’ve done for us and so many like us.

Love to you all,

Dave (and Julia and Ada)

In the UK, 1 in 10 babies need specialist care at birth. SSNAP supports sick & premature babies and their families in the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Imagine your newborn baby needing specialist care at birth. Instead of those very special days getting to know your baby as a family, you’re catapulted into an unfamiliar world of incubators, wires, medical tests and interventions. While your baby has specialist treatment, we provide emotional and practical support to help you through the trauma & upheaval. We’re there to help families cope, and provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and nursing expertise that could save babies lives.
