Story

I am firewalking for Sunflowers Suicide Support to help raise money so Sunflowers can provide families with practical and professional support so they do not feel overwhelmed and alone.

It’s actually me, Debby Woolls , doing the firewalk and not Mark. I couldn’t work out how to change the name on the just giving page 🙄

I lost my youngest son Joe aged 33 to suicide on 13th May 2021. Our lives were suddenly turned upside down and our family was left devastated. Sunflowers were our light in the darkness. They gave us support and comfort and are there for practical help too. To have someone who knows what this kind of grief is like is just so important. They have been such a great help and I want to give something back to them. Any donation no matter how small will be a great help.

About the charity

Sunflowers was created in memory of Pete Morris who died by suicide in 2016. His family developed the Charity to walk alongside others bereaved by suicide and to be a small ray of light in the darkness; offering others comfort and support that is so desperately needed at such a difficult time. Sunflowers endeavour to provide other families with practical and professional support so they do not feel overwhelmed and alone. This we hope will give a glimmer of hope for the future. Sunflowers also raise awareness around mental health and suicide both on social media and by networking locally and nationally. We deliver accredited training to the wider community and presentations sharing our story. We highlight that it is Okay to not be ‘Okay’ and the importance of talking and of course listening. We feel that everyone can play a small part in connecting with and helping others to feel less alone.
