Story
Thank you for taking the time to look at our web page!
We're a trio of docs (hence the musketeer outfits and car decorations!) hoping to raise funds for PLANETS cancer charity to help them continue their awesome work bringing the most advanced cancer treatments for patients.
We cant ride bikes and look shocking in Lycra, so the opportunity to help our favourite cause and embark on a 2 day 500 mile challenge from Southampton to deepest Scotland without squeezing into said high viz material seemed perfect! We have since regretted the musketeers outfit idea...
Dev is a GP and chairs one of the London GP collaboratives; Trev is a senior manager and bowel specialist; and Alex is a bowel surgeon; so Dev should be able to handle most things while Trev and Alex will just about cover the toilet humour!
We're really hoping that our ageing car will make the trip and the various stunts planned for it during the rally...eg the track at Popham airfield, the jumps, etc...and we are also a little fearful about the dreaded matrix of activities planned especially for the rally by none other than Mr Neil Pearce himself....but were hopeful we might raise the funds PLANETS desperately need for all our patients.
PLANETS helps patients with pancreatic, liver, colorectal, gastric, oesophageal and Neuroendocrine cancer.
In 2019, they raised £25,000 with their scrap rally and this has helped fund a variety of treatments for cancer patients across the south coast!
This year the aim is to reach £30,000, which will allow us to kick-start the implementation plan for purchasing another novel cancer treatment which has been on the shopping list for years at University Hospital Southampton, but the NHS has not been able to fund.
Nanoknife, also known as Irreversible Electroporation (IRE), would enable the team to target some of the most difficult to treat cancers in several settings for PLANETS patients. It uses advanced thermal technology to destroy tumours that are really close to critical vascular structures, without damaging them, unlike other conventional types of treatment.
If we reach this £30k target it will mean we have raised a total of £100,000 across the 3 Scrap to the Future events we've done so far - so lets get started and put all of our efforts into fundraising for PLANETS Cancer Charity for 2023!
Thank you again for taking the time to read this and we really hope you will be able to support us in this trip and donate to this very worthy cause.
