Why Rosemere?
In October 2023 Kat received an out-of-the-blue bowel cancer diagnosis following a single episode of abdominal pain (which was initially thought to be appendicitis), despite being fit and healthy and with 2 marathons under her belt already.
She was told there was a large mass in her colon and after a few weeks of testing the cancer was confirmed and she was booked for major surgery to remove part of her colon in November 2023. Following surgery she was advised to have a course of chemotherapy at The Rosemere Cancer Centre, Preston, due to the size of the tumour that was removed.
6 months and 1,568 tablets later Kat began the process of recovery and this fundraiser is the final part of her journey to get back to full fitness and to run her next marathon.
Why running?
For Kat this was a no-brainer; running, and the desire to get back to fitness, was the thing that kept her going throughout the chemotherapy. Even on the days when she was feeling the worst she managed to muster up the energy to get out for a walk, which progressed to a run/walk and - towards the end of her treatment - a run.
For Kat's sisters, Helen and Susie, this is not the case! Although they have flirted with the idea of exercise on occasion over the years, little did they ever imagine they would be putting a training plan and a marathon run into action this year! However, Helen and Susie knew that this challenge was the perfect way to encourage Kat to get through her gruelling treatment, and to help give back to The Rosemere Centre, where Kat received her treatment. Now all they have to do is put their trainers on and turn it into a reality...
And that's where you come in!
Your donations will help The Rosemere Centre continue its vital work, positively impacting the lives of local cancer patients in the region of Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Please give generously and help us reach our fundraising target.... £1,568.00 (£1 for every chemo tablet that Kat had to take).
