Story
Many of you know how much we have been affected by Brain Tumours, in 2012 my step-sister Lynne was treated for a high grade skull base brain tumour, then in September 2015 my 2 year old nephew Theo was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Anaplastic Ependymona, he passed away at home on 20th September 2017 at just 4 years old, having undergone 2 years of intensive treatment.
My close friend Amy was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in October 2018, for which she had treatment, however in February 2023 following a seizure she found the cancer had metastasized to her brain. She has had 4 cyber knife treatments in 2023 and another in April 2024.
In August 2023 I became a Trustee for Brain Tumour Research (BTR) to support the amazing work they do to fund research into Brain Tumours with the vision to find a cure. We currently fund 4 research centres in the UK and working on being able to fund a fifth.
So what am I doing? Well this is probably the most crazy thing (to-date) that I've undertaken; 27th March - 1st April 2025 I will be joining BTR Trek Sahara challenge .... a 6 day (ad)venture including 4 days trekking 50km in the Sahara, across ancient dried-up river beds, ever-changing dunes and vast sun-baked plains. Whilst the maximum distance trekking challenging conditions underfoot is 20km a day the temperature could be over 40 degrees centigrade! If that doesn't sound hard enough we will also be camping with no facilities during the trek (you know my love of 5 star accommodation rather than a tent!).
It costs £2,740 to fund research for a day, so I would really like to fund at least 2 days of research. Please support me with as much, or as little as you can.
As a footnote, I am funding my trip, so every penny you donate will go to Brain Tumour Research.
Thank you
Denise
