Story
WUSC has an annual Chairman's charity. This year the Chairman has chosen QEQM ICU. Here is the reason why.
In October 2021, after suffering from stomach pain for around 3 weeks, I was taken to QEQM by ambulance and after a CT scan I was told that I was suffering from extensive thrombosis and that my chance of survival was only 10-20%.
After 2 days of major surgery, I had a 15cm blood clot removed and was admitted to the critical care unit and put in an induced coma.
Due to covid restrictions visits were very limited, and after the 2nd day of surgery my mum rang to see how it went, only to be told that surgery had gone well, but it had since been discovered that I was suffering from Sepsis and was unlikely to survive the night.
Due to the quick thinking and expertise of the staff, my antibiotics were changed and within hours my condition improved, and I recovered.
I woke several days later, not knowing where on earth I was, to see a lady with blue hair, Julie, who stroked my head and told me where I was and assured me everything would be ok. I'll never forget Julie!
I spent at least a week in the critical care unit, before being moved to a normal ward where I spent another 9 days. I do feel if it wasn't for the wonderful staff in the icu, I would've never made it to a ward, let alone survive and lead a normal life.
I quite literally do owe them everything.
