Hello! I’m taking on the Pawsome 50 Miles Challenge this March to help raise funds for the incredible Autism Dogs Charity. My goal is to complete 50 miles throughout the month to help the charity meet their target of raising £50,000.

I didn't know about Autism Dogs Charity until a little over a year ago. At that time my daughter's life had become very difficult and small due to her anxieties, sensory processing differences and other challenges. I was desperately looking for ways to help. A lovely friend said that an assistance dog may be a great option and I started to do research. That is when I found Autism Dogs Charity.

My daughter was lucky enough to be selected for the Autism Dogs programme. Our family felt cautiously optimistic. She was matched with her doggy team-mate, Percy. Over months of playdates we got to know Percy, and all the while I could see my daughter's confidence already starting to grow. She could imagine life with him as a trusted companion and see how she might be able to do things that she hadn't done for a long time.

Once he completed his training he moved in with us. We've now had Percy with us for a mere few weeks, and his impact is already more than I could have hoped for. Her confidence and independence are growing daily, she's able to access public spaces which would have otherwise been impossible due to sensory-overwhelm, and she's able to bounce back from challenges with more ease. Percy is allowing her to make her life bigger again; to take part in things that she's missed out on for so long - the daily activities that many of us take for granted.
