Story
I'm swimming 5 Miles in September to help the American Cancer Society fight for a world without cancer. This is a very meaningful cause for me.
One of my closest friends, Stephen Oxley, recently passed after his battle with cancer. He was 40 years old. We met when I was about 18, when we were both slinging drinks at the Sydney Cricket Ground during football and cricket matches. We connected over a love of rugby league, and our future careers as entertainment professionals. I was overjoyed when he and Joy won the green card lottery just like me and moved to LA. Adventures ensued.
In 2019, his wonderful wife Joy very sadly also passed from cancer. Stephen and Joy enhanced my life in too many ways to explain.
One thing they both endlessly supported me in, was my swimming. To honor Stephen, I want to swim 10 miles throughout September to raise money for the ACS, similar to the Swim For Joy fundraising series I completed in 2019.
I know many people are hurting with Stephen's loss. I feel it every day. Stephen had so many wonderful friends, as well as a loving and warm family. I hope that we can raise as much money as we can for this cause.
