The Cure CJD campaign has been set up by a group of individuals, personally affected by the disease, to support the work of researchers & doctors at the MRC Prion Unit at UCL and NHS National Prion Clinic at UCLH. We are a fund within UCLH Charity.

Story

David Buckland sadly died in August of 2023, from Familial CJD. Up until 2 months ago, he was extremely fit and healthy. Without this disease I believe he would have lived well into his 90’s. He was 73 when he died.

Familial CJD. is an extremely rare form of CJD caused by an inherited mutation (abnormality) in the gene that produces the prion protein. The altered gene produces misfolded prions that cause CJD (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/creutzfeldt-jakob-disease-cjd/causes/)

Our Dad was a kind hearted soul who would go out of his way to help those he knew and cared for. A dry sense of humour, a love for the outdoors and all things petrol powered (especially motorcycles) His wife, children, grandchildren, extended family & friends, will think of with love and fondness forever.

There is presently no treatment or cure for CJD and due to how rare this disease is, there is very little funding via the NHS, however, by donating to the CureCJD Campaign (https://www.curecjd.org) , it will help scientists to find a way to ensure future generations do not contract this life shortening disease.
