Story
Thank you for looking at my Just Giving Page.
As many of you may be aware I have raised valuable funds for forces charity’s for many years. This year I am raising funds to support the Spirt of Normandy Trust.
To raise funds I will be doing a virtual walk during January to Normandy covering the 460 miles to Normandy and back. On top of this in May 24 I will actually be walking to Sword Beach in Normandy to present a cheque to the trust. This should take me 6 days.
The Spirit of Normandy Trust helps maintain the Normandy memorial but more importantly enables veterans return to Normandy where they served and fought. The Spirit of Normandy will go to great lengths to enable each veteran to find a particular grave or position significant to that individual. A example being a member of the Royal Navy being taken to where his ship was sunk to allow him to lay a wreath for his fallen 32 shipmates who never returned. This is just one of many individual stories that these brave men have.
2024 is a particular poignant as it’s the 80th anniversary of the landings. For many of the veterans this may be there last opportunity they may have to attend any commemorations at Normandy and visit fallen friends who did not return. Due to the age of the veterans this is a major task with the youngest being 98 and the oldest attending this year at 103. This I itself is a major logistical problem which is unique to each individual which incurs costs.
I am very aware that you all have your own charities and causes you donate to, however if you could help me to help these brave men to get to Normandy it will be greatly appreciated.
