Story
My father-in-law Robert, Bob to his friends, Mr. Bedford to me, contracted an aspergillis fungal infection after turning over a compost heap. Normally his body would have shrugged off the fungus but due to other health problems effecting his immune system the mushroom took hold and was with him for the remainder of his time which it, tragically, significantly shortened.
As was typical of Mr Bedford, he allowed the investigation and treatment of his ongoing condition to be part of the research into development of treatments for this little known, although more common than you would think and perniciously intractable disease for as long as he could.
The Aspergillosis Trust, of which Katie my wife has bcome a trustee, was set up by fellow sufferers to continue to support this great work and raise awareness of the disease and as such I am going to train for and run in the London Landmarks Half Marathon, with my sister, in support if the Aspergillosis Trust and in Bob's memory and raise funds of the cause.
I have connected my training from strava so you can follow my progress: I am not a runner, 5k fine, 21.0974k scary. Please give generously, its gonna hurt me more than it hurts you!
The vision of Aspergillosis Trust is to achieve the best outcomes for all aspergillosis patients, until such time as a cure can be found. We have an aspiration to support research into the disease and mycology generally that can help improve health outcomes for patients. We will work towards this by:
Raising awareness of aspergillosis amongst the general public.
Finding ways to ensure patients get the best possible information to help them manage the illness.
Increase the understanding of the condition amongst medical professionals.
