London Marathon 2024 - why not?
If you’ve come as far as clicking onto this page, you’re probably wondering why I’ve decided to take this on, and that’d be a fair question. Before training for this, I’d not done any serious running for over 10 years and it’s fair to say I was a bigger fan of iced buns than parkruns.
The simple answer is that I like a challenge, and whilst watching all the fantastic people taking on the marathon in 2023 I said to my wife ‘I reckon I could do that’, and after a series of questionable choices, here I am - aiming to run it in less than 4:00 hours and to raise some money for an excellent charity along the way.
Who am I running for?
I’ve decided to raise funds for Wooden Spoon. Their summary is below but Wooden Spoon does fantastic work supporting children across the UK and Ireland, through the power of rugby. As a (retired, average at best) rugby player I’ve seen the good that the sport can do, and I’m proud to be raising money for such a great charity.
Any donations big or small will be gratefully received and will go towards making life better for children and young people living in poverty or dealing with disability. Your donations will also act as motivation for me as I take on this challenge, and will spur me on through the tough moments during training/the race.
A bit more about Wooden Spoon
Wooden Spoon is the children’s charity of rugby, funding life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland to support children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage.
Research shows that 1 in 10 children in the UK and Ireland have a disability and there are 3.5 million children in the UK living in poverty. These numbers continue to rise and more and more children need our help.
Our vision is that through the power of rugby, every child and young person has access to the same opportunities.
Thank you for reading this far, and for donating if you can. Sub 4:00, here we go!
