Story

Thanks for visiting this page.

Graham Plumpton was, above all else, a kind, caring, genuine family man whose manner touched many and gained him much respect and popularity.

On Wednesday 24th January, Graham very sadly and most unexpectedly passed away following a severe heart attack, experienced whilst on a run from work to home. He lost his life despite the best efforts of those on the spot at the time who administered CPR and medical staff who attended to him.

Graham would have been known by many through his long service working at Hycontrol, Milltronics, Siemens and prior to these at Spink Typewriters. He had an ability to learn and store knowledge in his head or in books on an array of subjects and was always happy to share that knowledge to anyone who would benefit from it. This was never more true than on the subject of railways, a passion that Graham had enjoyed throughout his life. He landed his dream job late in life working in Customer Service for Great Western at Worcestershire Parkway station ticket office. This, his last job, was the highlight of his working life.

Aside of his family, railways and rock music (he was a big Queen fan), Graham's other great passion was running. He was a compulsive park runner and had completed over 450 park runs, mainly at Worcester Woods and Pitchcroft. He completed more than 10 marathons including London and numerous half marathons. It is of great comfort to his family that Graham left us whilst combining the things that gave him the most pleasure - running from work to home.

Graham was no stranger to heart disease. His daughter Bethany has a congenital heart condition which she has been fighting bravely with the support of Graham, Wendy and brother Matthew. In 2016, the family attended a British Heart Foundation fundraising event organised through Worcestershire BHF Fundraising Group and following this, Wendy joined the group as a full member and Graham, Matthew and Bethany have all been involved as volunteers at events since that time. In May 2019, Graham and Matthew also ran the Rock 'n' Roll Liverpool Half Marathon on behalf of the group and raised over £450 for BHF. In Sep 2019, Graham, aka "Hearty" represented BHF in the Mascot Race at Worcester Racecourse at their Family Day, when, thanks to Wendy, BHF were the nominated charity.

These connections are the reason why Wendy and family have asked that any donations made in Graham's memory are directed to BHF through the Worcestershire BHF Fundraising Group.

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please make a donation in memory of Graham.

Many thanks!
