The Atlantic Challenge is widely renowned as "The World's Toughest Rowing Race". On December 12th 2023, David and Garry will set off as team "Seas The Moments" rowing their tiny 7metre boat from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands, rowing 3000 miles, 2hrs on and 2hrs off for 24hrs a day, battling 30 ft waves and burning in excess of 5000 calories per day to reach the finish line at English Harbour Antigua hopefully between 50 and 60 days later.
We know what you're thinking - we must be crazy! Well, maybe we are. We can expect to battle with sleep deprivation, salt sores, and huge physical extremes, but we just can't resist a challenge, especially when it's all in the name of a good cause. The race will be tough, yes, but what an incredible experience.
We could never turn down an opportunity to make new memories and a fabulous way to raise money for our chosen charity.
As we have remained sporty and healthy throughout our lives, we have talked for some time about marking the occasion with an appropriate challenge….and why not "The World’s Toughest Row"?
We will be rowing totally unsupported, with up to 45 teams participating from around the world. Teams will gather in the race village San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands. The atmosphere is electric as people help each other prepare for the challenge of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. All with the same objective – to take on the unique experience of crossing an ocean in a small rowing boat.
We can't quite imagine how it will feel to cross that finish line, but we know one thing for certain - we can't wait to have you with us for the journey, to share in our highs and our lows and to help make as much money as possible for "The Great North Air Ambulance Service", a cause about which we are both truly passionate. So buckle up and enjoy the ride. It's sure to be a bumpy one..!
