Kayaking from Bognor Pier to Worthing Pier (and back)

David Bray is raising money for Fire Fighters Charity

Kayaking on Sussex Bay

Serving in fire and rescue can take its toll - on the body, the mind and on family life. We're here for people in all fire and rescue roles, giving the care and support they deserve, during and after service.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am seeking to solo kayak non-stop across Sussex Bay from Bognor Regis pier to Worthing pier, and back, a distance of circa 30 miles.

I am in my 28th year of service as a firefighter, and reach the milestone of being 50 years old in 2026, so wanted to celebrate it by raising some money for the Fire Fighters Charity whom have helped so many of my colleagues over the years.

Having moved to West Sussex four years ago, the sea is an important part of my life and my mental health, and therefore it feels poignant that this challenge seeks to encompass an element that I am so lucky to have on my door step.

My wife and children brought my love for the sea through their sailing activities which led me to become an RYA Powerboat and Safety Boat Instructor, and I find no better way to decompress and care for my mental health and wellbeing than by either being on, or in, the water. As the Fire Fighters Charity recognises the critical importance of our mental health, there could only ever be a water based theme to this challenge
