Story
Hello
My name is Darren and on 31st August I am planning on cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats. That’s 1,000 miles over ten consecutive days averaging 100 miles a day – mad, I know!
It has been suggested that I could also cycle back from John O’Groats to Land’s End as it’s downhill all the way!
Four and a half years ago my Dad was rushed to Wessex Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit with a serious infection on his brain (Ventriculitis). Although the infection was too severe to save Dad, the care and compassion the team gave to him and support to our family was incredible. Jump forward to the end of last year and my brother-in-law, Jon, also found himself in need of their care following a stroke. Their skill and dedication helped save Jon’s life and subsequent care gave Jon a platform to begin his rehabilitation. Keep up the great work Jon!
The reality is, anyone of us might need or know of someone who may need their services so I have decided to try and raise £1,000 for this amazing team/unit. That is a pound for every mile I cycle. The challenge is self-funded so 100% of money raised will go directly to the charity.
I am currently out on my bike most days in all weathers enduring the erratic British summer, gradually increasing the miles so I can be ready to take on this challenge. Also, for anyone who’s wondering it’s not on an electric bike!
If you are able to support me and help this great cause I would be extremely grateful and please, if you could share this with friends and family it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Darren
