Story
Over the last few years, Hazel and Darren have lost a number of loved ones too early because of cancer. In memory of our cherished family and friends who bravely fought this devastating disease, we’re embarking on the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge on 4th May 2024. This epic 106km trek around the island is to be covered in just 48 hours and will be a true battle of physical and mental endurance. However, it is not just about covering distance; it’s about celebrating the lives, resilience, and the unwavering spirit that cancer could never extinguish of those that mattered to us the most.
We’ve chosen this particular challenge and charity as the Isle of Wight holds treasured memories for Darren of his Dad and Grandma who lived there, and Hazel’s Mum visited and loved the beauty of it. It is a strong reminder of the people we loved and lost and, after the very recent loss of Darren’s close friend Alex, there seemed no better place to celebrate their lives and raise funds for a local charity that cares for others going through the same battle.
Why This Matters:
Remembering Their Courage: Cancer touches us all. By participating in this challenge, we honor those who fought bravely, celebrating their courage and determination.
Supporting Vital Charities: Funds raised go directly to a charity that provides essential care, support, and research for cancer patients. This organization offers hope, comfort, and practical assistance during some of life’s most challenging moments. We both understand only too well how invaluable this is.
Pushing Boundaries: As we walk along the spectacular southern cliffs, past the iconic Needles, and up to historic Cowes, we’re pushing our own limits. It’s a physical and emotional journey that mirrors the resilience of cancer warriors.
How You Can Help:
Donate and share: Every contribution matters, no matter how small. Your donations and that of other’s fuels research, provides patient support, and ensures that no one faces cancer alone.
